Screening mammograms detect abnormalities when they are too small to feel. Breast cancer doesn't normally show symptoms in its earliest stages. With regular mammograms, breast cancer is more likely treatable when caught early and mammograms can even detect some forms of pre-cancer before the development of a tumor. 
 
All women should talk with their health care provider about the appropriate timing for screening mammograms, especially women at high-risk. A mammogram schedule will be based upon an individual’s health. At age 40, women should have a screening mammogram and continue to have one at least every other year.  
 
While we encourage all women to establish care with a Primary Care Provider (PCP), if you have no history of breast cancer, have no current breast issues or concerns, and are eligible for a routine screening mammogram, you are able to self-refer without a physician order.

Prevea provides screening mammograms at three health centers in the Green Bay area and on a mobile mammography vehicle that visits numerous Prevea health centers throughout Wisconsin. For those women who prefer to have a screening mammogram in a hospital setting, our partner hospitals, HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls and HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, also offer screening mammogram services with both digital technology and digital technology with 3-D enhancements. They are staffed by registered mammography technologists and are also fully accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
