Therapy for urological conditions
When you’re dealing with issues of the urinary or reproductive system, it can be frustrating and even embarrassing. But you don’t have to live with those symptoms and the negative feelings they bring. Prevea’s urology experts are here to help. We specialize in disorders of the male and female urinary tract, as well as the male reproductive system.
Prevea’s team of physical and occupational therapists are experts in the treatment of incontinence, pelvic pain and prolapse, pregnancy-related pelvic conditions and osteoporosis management. We will work with your primary care physician or specialist to assess your condition and determine a personalized treatment plan.
Bladder control issues are among the most common, and most treatable, medical conditions. Our therapists specialize in several techniques that help relieve the symptoms of incontinence for greater independence and an improved quality of life.
Urinary problems and incontinence
Frustrating urinary problems and incontinence affect millions of people each year. Symptoms may develop due to an enlarged prostate, from stress, after a urinary tract infection, after surgery or while taking certain medications. Therapy can be a source of relief for many urinary issues. If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may benefit from treatment by our urology team:
- Do you frequently urinate?
- Do you have problems controlling flow or when and how often you urinate?
- Do you leak urine during physical activity or movement?
- Do you feel you are not completely emptying after going to the bathroom?
Pelvic pain
Pain in your lower abdomen may occur from changes to the bladder or, in men, the prostate. Pelvic pain may also arise from muscle and ligament tightness or irritation of the nerves in the pelvic floor. Treatment includes therapies to relax the muscles and ligaments and improve muscle use.
Pelvic prolapse
Pelvic prolapse is a weakening in the pelvic muscles causing organs to shift and press into the vagina. It is often the result of childbirth, chronic constipation or the loss of estrogen due to aging. If you answer yes to any of the following questions, pelvic prolapse therapy may help you:
- Do you have frequent urinary infections?
- Do you feel a vaginal bulge or fullness that you can’t explain?
- Do you have pain in the vaginal area during intercourse or even just sitting?
Pelvic prolapse treatment includes pelvic muscle strengthening and behavioral modifications to reduce stress in the pelvic organs.
