The highly-skilled surgeons at Prevea Health utilizes the da Vinci Surgical System to provide patients the highest quality of care. Robotic procedures are always performed entirely by a surgeon. Our surgeons have undergone extensive training, providing them with the advanced skill and expertise to offer patients this level of advanced surgical technology.

Advanced, robotic surgery systems have been in use at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital since 2007 and at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital since 2018. And, thanks to advanced robotic technology, they are able to do it with even more precision and better outcomes for patients. Robotic-assisted surgery may be an option for patients having colorectal, general, thoracic, gynecologic, or urologic related surgery.

We use the da Vinci Surgical System which provides a less-invasive technique than traditional surgery.  The da Vinci offers a three-dimensional, high-definition (3D-HD) vision system, special instruments and computer software that allows surgeons to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.

After a surgical site is accessed through tiny incisions, the system translates the surgeon’s hand movement into smaller, more precise actions of the instruments inside the patient’s body. The da Vinci instruments have mechanical wrists that bend and rotate to mimic the movement of the human wrist. And, a 3D-HD image is highly magnified, offering surgeons a close-up view of the surgical site.

Robotic-assisted surgery provides the following benefits to patients so you can quickly return to normal activities:
  • Surgery is minimally-invasive, with reduced scarring
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Quicker recovery
  • Less pain medication is required
