While each pregnancy is different, the following chart will give you an idea of common prenatal tests and at what point they are preformed.


8-10 WEEKS

Tests at first OB appointment
  • Blood type
  • Rubella status
  • Cultures
  • Pap smear
  • Early trimester screening
  • Cystic fibrosis


10-13 WEEKS

1st trimester screening
Optional testing for birth defects and genetic problems.



16-18 WEEKS

Alpha fetoprotein/quad screen
Optional blood tests for the risk of: Neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, Down's syndrome and other genetic problems.



Approx. 20 WEEKS

Ultrasound
  • Baby's development
  • Baby's age


Approx. 26-30 WEEKS

Glucose Test (screening)
Testing for diabetes during pregnancy


35-36 WEEKS

Group Beta (B) Strep
Tests for Strep in vagina. If diagnosed, mother will receive antibiotics during delivery.
