If you are thinking about having a baby, you have likely thought about many things...ideas for the nursery, favorite baby names, etc. You may have even wondered about the cost of bringing your child into the world.

Planning financially for a baby is an important step. From expenses during your pregnancy to the cost for giving birth and the supplies you will need when the baby arrives, there are many things that contribute to your “having a baby budget.”

Maternity clothes, baby clothes, day care, a crib, a car seat, a stroller, wipes, formula, and diapers—it all adds up. But the amount that many moms-to-be are most in the dark about is the cost for medical services.

Health care provider & hospital costs

When planning financially to start a family, one of the most important considerations is your insurance coverage. While all plans are different, the majority of maternity care, including prenatal visits and hospital delivery, is usually included.

Of course, there are many factors that determine the cost of prenatal care and the cost of delivering a baby. For instance, some pregnancies require frequent doctor visits. Whether your delivery is vaginal or cesarean (c-section) will also make a difference.

No two pregnancies are the same, but we would be happy to talk to you and help estimate your costs for prenatal care and standard delivery. Just call us at (888) 277-3832 and someone will be happy to assist you.

Opportunities to save

Don’t worry, there are many ways to save throughout your pregnancy and after the baby is born. Consider asking friends and family if you can borrow maternity and/or baby clothes. Remember to buy diapers in bulk. Or, if you are willing to do more laundry and spend a little extra time, go with the cloth variety. And know that breastfeeding can save your family anywhere from $50 to $200 a month.
