Prevea vascular care

A team approach to comprehensive vascular disease treatment
What is vascular care?
Vascular care diagnoses and treats disorders and diseases that affect the vascular system. The human vascular system consists of arteries, veins and other vessels that circulate blood throughout your body delivering oxygen and nutrients to the body tissues and taking away tissue waste matter. The vascular system is also called the circulatory system.

Prevea offers a team of highly skilled physicians and advanced practice providers

Surgery performed on veins and arteries away from the heart is referred to as vascular surgery. Vascular disease is a common problem that affects millions of people. If untreated, it can lead to stroke, heart attacks, leg pain and wounds and amputation.

Our surgeons are board certified and our advanced practice providers are specially trained in vascular care—a depth of experience that provides outstanding care using the latest diagnostic technology and treatments.

Who is at risk for vascular disease?

Risk factors for vascular disease can vary, depending on the specific disease. Some of the common risk factors include:

  • Age (your risk of some diseases goes up as you age).
  • Conditions that can affect the heart and blood vessels, such as diabetes or high cholesterol.
  • Family history of vascular or heart disease.
  • Infection or injury that damages your veins.
  • Lack of exercise.
  • Obesity.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Sitting or standing still for long periods of time.
  • Smoking.

Steps to prevent vascular disease

There are steps you can take to help prevent vascular disease:

  • Make healthy lifestyle changes, such as eating healthy and getting the recommended amount of exercise.
  • Don’t smoke or use tobacco products. If you do use tobacco products, talk to your health care physician or provider about options to quit.
  • Keep your blood pressure and cholesterol levels within guidelines.
  • If you have diabetes, control your blood sugar.
  • Try not to sit or stand for long periods of time. If you do need to sit all day, get up and move around every hour or so. If you are traveling on a long trip, you may want to consider wearing compression stocking and regularly stretching your legs.

Our program is built around a comprehensive team of specialists, including:

  • Primary care physicians and providers.

Treating all phases of vascular disease

Prevea’s team of vascular specialists and collaborating physicians and providers treat all phases of vascular disease, from prevention and early detection to diagnosis and treatment, including both surgical and minimally-invasive treatment options.

Key services

Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)/peripheral artery disease (PAD)

PVD and PAD are circulatory disorders that affect blood vessels. With PAD, arteries are narrowed due to a buildup of plaque. Prevea vascular surgeons may recommend peripheral arterial bypass and angioplasty to improve blood flow.

TransCarotid artery revascularization (TCAR)

TCAR is a new hybrid treatment approach for patients with carotid artery disease who are considered high risk for traditional open surgical treatment options. Vascular surgeons work with patients to determine if a TCAR procedure is right for them.

Varicose veins and spider veins (minimally invasive)

Varicose veins and spider veins are swollen, twisted veins that often occur in the lower legs. They can be painful, and for others they are more of a cosmetic concern. Prevea vascular specialists work with patients to determine the best treatment option for them.

Vascular risk assessment and screening

It is important to be aware of the risk factors for developing vascular disease. Vascular screenings for at-risk individuals have been shown to find signs of disease early, reduce the risk of serious complications and save lives.
