Green Bay, Wis. –Prevea Health has unveiled a painting at the new Prevea St. Mary’s Health Center which honors lives lost to COVID-19 and sacrifice and dedication of health care workers during the global pandemic.

Prevea commissioned artist Jason Prigge, a fulltime creative living and working in Manitowoc, for the project. He created Promise of a New Day - a triptych (three separate canvas panels) featuring oil, acrylic, gold leaf and collage. A plaque hanging next to the artwork describes the context of the piece:

“Rich in symbolism and subtext, this composition depicts a flock of snow-white sea birds across the expanse of all three panels, soaring over the Bay of Green Bay and meant to evoke a sense of peace, strength and serenity. In the leftmost panel, the birds feature gold-tipped wings to represent our loved ones who have passed, depicted as angels in their flight towards heaven. The center panel features birds whose figures are decorated with collaged segments of the Hippocratic Oath to represent the physicians and medical staff who work selflessly to care for their patients. And finally, birds in the third panel, more earthbound as they glide just above the bay’s glittering surface, represent Prevea’s current patients and their families, who greet the dawn with prayers of hope and healing.”

More than 7,000 lives have been lost to COVID-19 in Wisconsin, including nearly 300 in Brown County alone.

Promise of a New Day is featured prominently in the foyer of the new Prevea St. Mary’s Health Center which opened for patient care on May 10 at 1860 Shawano Ave in Green Bay.
